SouthWind Tax Service has been serving clients since 1998, providing oustanding service at reasonable rates.
Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Alexander M Casatelli, MBA. My career has spanned over 40 years in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. I have extensive experience in small business management. I earned a BS in Business Administration in 1983 from Ramapo College of NJ, and in 1996, I earned my MBA degree from St Leo College (now St Leo University).
In the 1980's I was in the interior furnishings industry, owning firms that provided reupholstery, window coverings and installation services to both residential and commercial clients in the northern NJ/NYC area. Upon arriving in Florida in the early '90's, I worked at an advertising firm and then a community mental health center managing a sheltered workshop and making prliminary assessments of individuals in crisis in the emergency department.
The government shutdown in the fall of 1995 was the stepping stone to the future. Simultaeous opportunities with 2 different franchisees of a national tax preparation company presented themselves and both were taken by judicious use of JIT scheduling. After that tax season, high risk lending offered the next opportunity. I managed an office which had a 110% profit margin and a zero loss rate in an industry where 10% was the norm, which I saw as another opportunity.
In 1998, SouthWind was incepted to provide small-amount high risk loans and professional, affordable tax preparation services. I have experience with Schedule C Sole Proprietorships, Limited Liability Companies, 1065 Partnerships, 1120 C-Corporations, 1120-S S=Corporations, 990 Not-For-Profits, as well as both US federal and State of Florida employment tax returns.
Since our inception in 1998, SouthWind has prepared over 4000 tax returns! Experience matters!
1998 was a busy year! In addition to SouthWind, I was one of the original founders of Hope Enterprises of America, Inc, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit residential home for individuals with developmental disabilities. In 2001, after the State of Florida made changes to the laws governing high-risk lending which made them unprofitable I took an active role at Hope, managing the day program for the residents. In 2004, I became the Vice President of Hope with responsibilities ranging from payroll to maintenance. In 2013 I became Acting President and in 2016, I became President, a position I held until 2023 when the agency transferred operations to a new entity and I semi-retired. For the entire time I was Acting President/President there were 10 residents being cared for by 10-12 caregivers with annual expenditures of approximately $600K. From 1998 through 2023 I operated both entities concurrently.
Learning is a process that never ends. The federal tax code is constantly changing and all tax professionals need to constantly become educated about these changes. I participate in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program, annually earning a minimum of 18 hours of CEUs. I am listed in the IRS' Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers.
